A chilled water AHU (Air Handling Unit) coil is a crucial component of a building's HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) system. It functions as the primary heat exchanger, responsible for cooling and dehumidifying the air that circulates throughout a space.
The coil consists of a network of tubes typically made of copper or aluminum, which are arranged in a serpentine pattern and housed within a metal casing. Chilled water is circulated through these tubes, absorbing heat from the air passing over them. As warm air from the building is drawn in, it comes into contact with the cold surface of the coil. Heat energy transfers from the air to the chilled water within the coil, effectively lowering the air temperature.
